Monroe Co - Rt 611 Bridge Project in Pocono Twp

Published: Sep 25 2013 04:47:11 PM EDT

Work has begun to repair the structurally deficient PA 611 Bridge over Pocono Creek in Pocono Township, Monroe County.

The project involves repairing the beams and replacing the deck on the two span, pre-stressed concrete adjacent box beam bridge.

Beginning today (Sept. 25) and throughout the first phases of construction, the contractor will be shifting traffic lanes on PA 611 at the bridge. The center turn lane will be eliminated and a single lane northbound and southbound will be maintained during these first phases. Lane closures with flagging may be required when the new traffic patterns are implemented.

In a later phase of construction, PA 611 northbound traffic will be detoured between Rimrock Drive/Bartonsville Avenue and Bartonsville Avenue. The detour will utilize Bartonsville Avenue. Local access will be maintained and southbound traffic will not be affected.

This bridge project is scheduled to be complete in September 2014. All schedules are subject to change.

Leeward Construction, Inc. of Honesdale, Pa. is the general contractor on the $2,489,984 project.

The PA 611 Bridge was originally constructed in 1957. It is 136 feet long and 52 feet wide and is currently posted with a weight restriction of 17 tons, 22 for combinations. After construction the bridge will not be weight restricted. This section of PA 611 has an average daily traffic volume of 19,380 vehicles.
