Bethlehem Zoning Board Approves Townhouses at former Linden Street Greenhouse Property

A property once home to three different florists and in 2013 failed to be transformed into an outpatient drug and alcohol rehab center by area developer Abe Atiyeh was approved last night as eight single family attached townhomes by the Bethlehem Zoning Hearing Board.

Northampton Co. to lease Minsi Lake

Northampton County Council

Northampton County Council agreed to lease Minsi Lake to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission during Thursday night's meeting.

The county, which owns the 311 acres of property in Upper Mount Bethel Township, will receive $1 for the lease through Sept. 1, 2020.

Council also approved a five-year, $500,000 contact with ACS Claim Service, Inc. to administer workers compensation claims by a 6-1 vote; Councilman Lamont McClure dissented.

"Five years seems like a long time," McClure said. "I could see two years or even three years as a way to ascertain the vendor's proficiency and competency at the task," he said.

Council also advanced an ordinance requiring annual license and permit fees for commercial weighing, measuring or scanning devices. The ordinance would establish the requirements for obtaining the permit and penalties for failing to do so.

Devices that would be regulated would fuel dispensers, vehicle tank meters, liquid petroleum gas meters, compressed natural gas meters, scales, universal product code scanning systems and grain moisture meters, among others. A public hearing and debate on the amendment is scheduled to take place at the Sept. 17 meeting.

County Executive John Brown was not in attendance Thursday night, sending Luis Campos, director of administration, to issue his report to council. Following its conclusion, McClure mocked Campos' report for what he maintained was a lack of substance.

Councilman Glenn Geissinger was also absent from Thursday night's proceedings.
