Weather Forecast Discussion

A little cooler, but still plenty of sunshine on Thursday

Raw and rainy to end the work week and March

TONIGHT: Mainly clear, colder with a light wind. Low: 30

THURSDAY: Sunshine mixing with some clouds. High: 54

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with a little rain late; pockets of freezing rain and sleet to the north. Low: 36

Finally an opportunity to dry out on Wednesday after dreary conditions to start the week. Sunny skies Wednesday afternoon helped temperatures top out near 60 degrees. Skies will remain mainly clear overnight allowing temperatures to bottom out around 30 degrees.

Thursday will begin with plenty of sunshine, but there will be a slight increase in the cloud cover by sunset. Highs on Thursday will be in the seasonable mid 50s. The increase in clouds Thursday afternoon is due to a warm front pushing in from the west. This warm front will overspread the area with rain after midnight. Since temperatures will be falling into the mid 30s Thursday night it's possible that we see some freezing rain or sleet north of the Lehigh Valley.

The rain will continue through the day on Friday and at least in morning there could still be some pockets of freezing rain and sleet to the north. As temperatures rise into the mid 40s on Friday, any frozen precipitation will transition over to rain. The overall feel of the day is going to be raw for late-March. Also remarkable to note that the high on the first day of March (68) will be more than 20 degrees warmer than the last in Allentown. Something that often happens during the fall months, but rarely in spring.

Friday night the rain will continue, but it will taper back prior to daybreak on Saturday. Saturday will begin a little damp with some lingering rain still hanging around, but that will quickly come to an end and some sunshine will reappear Saturday afternoon. Highs on Saturday will climb into the low and mid 50s. Sunday will be a very pleasant early April day with just a few patchy clouds and highs near 60.
