Police Officers Pay Tribute To Fallen K-9 Colleague


Police officers gathered this morning to honor one of their K-9 colleagues who lost his battle with cancer last month. A memorial service for Axel was held at the Lehigh Consistory on West Hamilton Street. A wreath was later laid in a ceremony at the Allentown Police Academy.[

10/14/09 REPORT: Officer Prepares To Say Good-Bye To K-9 Partner ]Axel was a six-year veteran of the Allentown Police Department. The German shepherd was used for regular patrols and for drug detection. He and his partner, Sgt. John Hill, won a gold medal in the Northeast Region for Obedience in September, 2003. In 2006, Axel was awarded a Commendation for Bravery after he went into the woods to apprehend a suspect in a shooting.
