Rescue crews were pressed into action Monday to save a family from the rising flood water in Northampton County.

The water on Messinger Street in Bangor rose as high as five feet early Monday morning, officials said.

Some homes suffered minor structural damage and flooding in basements, officials said.

Several roads were also closed because of dangerous flooding.

One resident said the heavy rain woke her up, and she went to her front porch and saw water rushing down the street.

"It was roaring down the road. Garbage cans, all sort of debris was floating down the street. It was just like a river, riverfront property right up to the porch," said Donna Evans.

Met-Ed turned off electricity until the situation stabilized, police said.

No injuries were reported.

The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency is keeping its eye on the storm.
