***EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FOR THE GREATER PHILADELPHIA AREA UNTIL 6:00 PM MONDAY***

***HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR PARTS OF SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA AND MOST OF NEW JERSEY FROM 11:00 AM MONDAY UNTIL 6:00 PM***

With the heat this weekend, make sure you are staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and staying in air conditioned areas. Please take care of pets and check on children and the elders. The UV index this weekend will also remain high so try to stay out of direct sun, frequently apply sunscreen and wear sunglasses and a hat.

After another hot and sunny day, we officially tied the record high for Allentown today (95 degrees, previously set in 1999) and in Reading (96 degrees, previously set back in 2010). We will see rather cloudy skies overnight with temperatures only dropping into the low 70s, so it will be warm and more humid.  There will also be a stray shower or t-storm in spots.

The heat sticks around for the upcoming week, so expect highs to soar into the 90s. Monday will be especially humid with a brief morning shower possible, then a strong thunderstorm in spots later in the day as a front pushes through. Any storm could bring locally heavy rain and gusty winds. The greater Philadelphia area may be feeling like 100 to 105 during the afternoon and the rest of the area may be feeling close to 100 degrees. Monday will likely break some record highs.

The rest of the week is looking partly to mostly sunny for now. Our next chance at seeing high temperatures below 90 degrees may be on Friday and into next weekend.
