Weather Forecast Discussion

Sun then clouds on Sunday, but rain arrives overnight

A damp start Monday, then a brighter finish

TODAY: Some sunshine giving way to clouds. Perhaps a late-day shower. High: 78

TONIGHT: Considerable cloudiness; an evening shower, then periods of rain  and a thunderstorm late. Low: 57

MEMORIAL DAY: Periods of rain and a thunderstorm in the morning, then clouds break for sunshine. High: 75

So far, so good. We're halfway through the big holiday weekend, and it's been a mainly dry and seasonably warm one, outside of a few midday showers Saturday. After a good amount of sunshine through the first half of Sunday, clouds will gradually increase through the rest of the day.

While there could be a late-day or evening shower, the daylight hours should be mainly dry. The bulk of some impending wet weather will hold off until later Sunday night. Most would agree that if it has to rain on a holiday weekend, the night is the best time for the wet weather to occur., when most of us are sleeping and no outdoor plans are negatively impacted.

A few rounds of showers and even a thunderstorm will sweep across Pennsylvania and New Jersey overnight and will linger into early Monday morning across parts of the area. The Poconos and northern New Jersey will likely hold onto the wet weather the longest, but drying and then clearing trends should develop from southwest to northeast across the entire area as Memorial Day progresses. If you are attending holiday ceremonies, parades, or observances, they are likely to be the most damp the earlier in the morning they occur, especially points north and east. However, partly sunny skies should develop everywhere by afternoon.

Seasonably warm temperatures continue for much of the week ahead, with a pop-up shower or thunderstorm possible both Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons but an otherwise dry forecast prevailing.
