Areas of fog tonight, some dense

Rain returns Sunday and into the early work week

***A DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FOR SCHUYLKILL, LANCASTER AND LEBANON COUNTIES UNTIL 10:00 PM TONIGHT, FOR LUZERNE AND PIKE COUTNIES UNTIL 1:00 AM, AND IN EFFECT FOR THE REST OF THE VIEWING AREA FROM 10:00 PM TONIGHT UNTIL 10:00 AM SUNDAY***

TONIGHT: Plenty of clouds, could be a stray shower mainly south. Low: 41

SUNDAY: Cloudy with a little rain and drizzle, mainly in the afternoon. High: 52

SUNDAY NIGHT: Rain becoming steady towards dawn; becoming windy. Low: 40

It's been a cloudy day, but we were mild with highs above average. There has also been a decent amount of fog forming across the area and some of it is fairly dense, so be cautious for low visibilities tonight into Sunday morning. Expect plenty of clouds to stick around tonight too with a few showers possible, especially south. Low temperatures will only drop into the low 40s.

A complex area of low pressure systems will begin to affect us on Sunday. The initial area of low pressure will move into the Ohio River Valley, but will quickly transfer its energy over to a coastal low that will strengthen as it moves up the East Coast on Monday and Tuesday.

As a result, we'll see some intermittent rain and drizzle as early as Sunday morning, but will primarily see the rain during the afternoon and at night. The rain will then continue through Monday and into Tuesday morning before tapering off. The rain will be heavy at times with total rainfall amounts around 0.75" from this event, but some locations may end up with 1.50" or more. There is also the possibility for localized flooding.

The other effect from this will be increased wind speeds as this coastal low strengthens. Wind gusts of 30-40 mph will be possible on Monday. In fact, the winds might be strong enough Monday afternoon into Monday night to pull some colder air down from the north, which in turn could result in the precipitation changing over to wet snow in the higher terrain and places like the Poconos. Please stay tuned for updates on this complex situation.

As for the temperatures, look for highs to top out  in the low 50s on Sunday before retreating to the low 40s on Monday. Highs will bounce back into the upper 40s on Tuesday and into the low 50s on Wednesday.
