CONTROL-A: Behind them, in a separate room (with large glass windows), the audio operator controls the levels of the microphones, playback video, and music.

Everyone on the studio set wears an ear-piece. The IFB (Interruptable Fold Back) is an ear-piece worn by the anchors that allows the director or producer in the control room to communicate throughout the program. During a live broadcast, anchors may be receiving information in their ear at the same time they are delivering the news. Yes, that takes some practice!
