BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Five years ago Social Still took a gamble on southside Bethlehem. Now it's one of the most popular restaurants there.
"We knew it right from the beginning that we were going to have to be a destination where people wanted to come out and check it out," said Adam Flatt, co-owner of Social Still Distillery.
Flatt said Social Still did that with great food, handcrafted spirits, and a cozy atmosphere for customers.
Craft cocktails started the vision for Flatt, who also co-owns Franklin Hill Vineyards in Lower Mt. Bethel, but the food is setting Social still apart.
The restaurant is in an old bank built in 1915, meaning limited space. It has a kitchen so small there's no walk in cooler.
Some dishes include the scallop appetizer, pan seared and served on a Thai peanut sauce noodle sushi roll.
All the burgers on the menu are a hit, but the signature dish is the Real Ham burger, an 8oz Mangalista pork patty known as the Kobe Beef of pork.
The burger is topped with a bourbon infused bacon jalapeno jam, Vermont cheddar to hold in the goodness, and a bacon aioli made with bacon fat.
You know it's a special burger when they use a branding iron on the bun.
Don't worry vegetarians, there is something for you as well. The vegan bread pudding, and other items are always available.
Owners say they've built a good following and love the fact more places are opening on the south side.
