U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser

POTTSVILLE, Pa. -- Saturday, Congressman Dan Meuser released the following statement in response to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf announcing his recommendation that no interscholastic sports occur before January 1st:

“I was taken by surprise, as many of us were, by Governor Wolf’s recommendation that Pennsylvania schools delay interscholastic sports until January 1st. Schools across the Commonwealth have invested significant time and effort to develop health and safety protocols to protect student-athletes, while allowing them to compete this fall. The Governor should partner with the PIAA to develop a smart and safe plan to accomplish this goal as students begin their return to the classroom. Offering no plan is not acceptable to the thousands of students, parents and coaches who have expressed their desire to play sports this coming semester.”
