HARRISBURG, Pa. - The number of new coronavirus cases in Pennsylvania nearly doubled from Wednesday to Thursday, marking another steep jump in total cases statewide.

There were 560 new COVID-19 cases reported between midnight Wednesday and midnight Thursday, state health officials said.

That brings the state total to 1,687:

The state also reported five new virus-related deaths, including the first in Lehigh County. That brings the statewide death toll to 16.

Authorities also said as of Thursday, more than 16,000 Pennsylvanians have tested negative for the virus.

Stay-at-home orders are now in place for 10 Pennsylvania counties, including Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks, Montgomery and Monroe.
