Animal Rescue League of Berks County - ARL

CUMRU TWP., Pa. - The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is preparing to offer each one of its sheltered pets for free to a good home.

The ARL will waive adoption fees for all of its sheltered dogs and cats this Saturday, Feb. 15, from noon until 5 p.m., thanks to Fetchin' Pooch Groomery & Boutique in Penn Township.

"I chose to sponsor an adoption day because I lost three of my pets this year; two the week before Christmas," said Shawna Baumener, Fetchin' Pooch's owner. "My fur babies are my best friends, and I know that doing sponsored adoptions will help someone find their best friend."

Anyone looking to adopt a pet must go through the ARL's regular procedures, including completing an adoption profile and speaking with an adoption counselor to ensure that the selected pet is a good match for the adopter's home, family, and lifestyle.

"We do not take any shortcuts when we host free adoption weekends," said Alexis Pagoulatos, the ARL's executive director. "We want to do everything we can to make sure all of our pets find great homes, no matter if their new family is paying for them or not."

Those adopting a dog will need to have cash or a check for the $7 dog license, which is required by state law at the time of adoption, as well as a dog collar and leash.

The ARL said cat adopters should bring with them a cat carrier, or they can buy one at the shelter for $5.

For more information about the free adoption event, contact the ARL by calling 610-373-8830.
