SALISBURY TWP., Pa. -- Two children who were found unconscious inside a home in Berks County earlier this week have died.
One of the children, 4-year-old Brinley Snyder, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown at 4:26 p.m. Thursday, according to the Lehigh County coroner; her 8-year-old brother, Conner, was pronounced dead 14 minutes later.
The coroner's office said Friday that autopsies will be done to determine how the children died. In the meantime, their deaths are part of an "ongoing, active investigation," according to Berks County District Attorney John Adams, who noted that there is no danger to the public.
The children were found unconcious inside a home in the 2400 block of Route 143 in Albany Township on Monday. Both children were flown to the hospital.
Conner was a student at Greenwich-Lenhartsville Elementary School in Greenwich Township, where a team of counselors, psychologists and counselors was available Friday to help students and staff cope with the tragedy, according to Christian Temchatin, the superintendent of the Kutztown Area School District. The team will be back at the school on Monday.
"As a school community, we are devastated by these tragic events," Temchatin said. "Our sympathy, concern and prayers are with those who have been impacted by this heartbreaking loss."
