Crash on West Shore Bypass in West Reading

WEST READING, Pa. - The Thursday evening rush hour got off to a slow start on one of Berks County's busiest highways.

A crash closed the eastbound lanes of Route 422, the West Shore Bypass, between the Penn Street/Avenue interchange in West Reading and the Lancaster Avenue off-ramp in Reading.

There were no reports of injuries in the crash.

Emergency dispatchers reported that eastbound traffic was backed up beyond the Route 222 split in Spring Township. The on-ramps to the bypass from Penn Avenue and Penn Street were also clogged.

The highway was reported to have reopened shortly after 5 p.m.
