UPPER BERN TWP., Pa. - A family-owned arena in Berks County has chosen a fitting event to be its last.
Mountain Springs Arena in Upper Bern Township announced Tuesday that it will host a demolition derby as the final event in its 45-year history.
The derby is planned for Saturday, October 19, from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. Gates will open at 4 p.m.
The arena's owners have sold the property to a developer, who plans to demolish the site's indoor and outdoor venues and build a warehouse.
"I was made an offer I couldn't refuse," owner Rich Miller told 69 News in August.
In addition to demolition derbies, the arena has played host to many other events since its first season in 1973, including professional rodeos and monster truck shows.
The Miller family said it is looking for a site near Harrisburg to continue its horse operations.
