The Boyertown Area School District can bank on continuing its Teachers in the Park summer learning program.
Ambler Savings Bank announced Wednesday that it has donated $10,000 to the Foundation for Boyertown Education. The money will cover the entire cost of the six-week program at Bally Community Park.
"This program allows students to start school on a level playing field with their peers," said Tessi Melchior, the foundation's executive director. "Studies show that, over the summer, students lose 20% of what they were taught the previous year. The TIPS program ensures that the students start school with the knowledge they need to be successful."
The district also runs the program at Boyertown Community Park. Eighty students from the Boyertown, Colebrookdale, Earl, Pine Forge, and Washington elementary schools participated this summer.
"This unique summer program is a priceless asset to students in our community," said Roger Zacharia, the president and CEO of Ambler Savings Bank, which has a branch in Bally.
