Conrad Weiser Area High School

HEIDELBERG TWP., Pa. — A former Conrad Weiser Area School District student is suing the district and a former assistant baseball coach.

The lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday, accuses the coach of repeatedly raping her in the early 2000s. Her lawyers said that led her into drug use at the age of 15.

"Our client continues to walk a long, hard road to recover from the alleged abuse that happened at the hands of someone she trusted and in a place where she was supposed to be kept safe," the woman's attorneys, Ultima Morgan, Adria Lynn Silva and Alan Borowsky, of Orlando, Florida-based law firm Morgan & Morgan, said in a statement to 69 News.

The lawsuit also accuses the school district of failing to report the abuse.

"Schools have a sacred duty to protect and nurture their students," the attorneys said. "We are outraged that the school seemingly did nothing to prevent the traumatic abuse of a student in their care, and we will work to hold the school district accountable for its abject failure to protect its student."

The district said it can't comment on the specific allegations, but it's reviewing its next steps.

"We are working with our district's legal counsel to review the lawsuit and determine next steps," the district said in a written statement. "We appreciate our community's patience as we address this issue."
