WYOMISSING, Pa. - For the first time in five months, movie projectors are set to begin running again in Berks County.
Fox Berkshire announced plans Wednesday to reopen for the first time since mid-March, when it closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The eight-screen complex is set to resume operations next Friday, Aug. 21.
"We're ready to reopen," said Don Fox, the CEO of Fox Theatres. "We've been cleaning and sanitizing, and are committed to creating a safe environment for our employees and customers while delighting movie lovers with incredible films on the big screen."
Fox Berkshire will open with the release of "Unhinged" as well as showings of "Inception 10th Anniversary," "Goonies," "Grease," and "Sonic the Hedgehog."
The following Friday, Aug. 27, will feature the release of "The New Mutants," as well as showings of "Jaws," "Jurassic Park," and "Back to the Future."
"Tenet" will open Sept. 3.
Fox Berkshire said moviegoers can expect to find the following measures being taken to protect themselves and employees from COVID-19:
- Enhanced cleaning - The lobby and restrooms will be cleaned throughout the day and seats will be thoroughly cleaned between showtimes. All areas of the theater will be deep cleaned and disinfected at the end of each day.
- Customer and employee safety - Masks and social distancing will be required in all areas of the theater. Employees will undergo health checks before each shift.
- Online sales - Advance, online sales are encouraged for tickets and concessions, though both can be purchased with cash or credit card at the theater.
- Reduced auditorium capacity - Customers are required to leave at least two empty seats between groups to maintain social distance and limit capacity based on state and local guidelines.
Reserved seating is not currently available.
Berks County's other movie houses have yet to announce plans for their reopening.
Reading Movies 11 & IMAX in Entertainment Square said it will reopen soon, pending the release schedule and the governing authorities' approval.
