After more than 35 years, the Greater Berks Food Bank is changing its name.
Effective May 1, the food bank will be known as Helping Harvest.
Food bank official said they wanted to change the name to reflect that they support food programs outside of Berks County. They also said they are focusing on providing more fresh produce and dairy products to people in need.
The food bank, located in Spring Township, opened its first location in 1983. It expanded to include Schuylkill County in 1988. It now supplies more than 300 food programs and helps to distribute 7 million pounds of food each year.
