MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - A Berks-based sportswear company will be on the world stage during the Olympics.
The U.S. gymnastics team will wear uniforms made by GK Elite in Muhlenberg Township.
It's not the first time the company has manufactured Olympic uniforms, but this year is different, in that it's the first time GK Elite will have its logo on the front of the designs in Tokyo.
"It's just going to take them to the gold medal and we are so proud it came out of our factory," said Ann Jones, senior designer for GK Elite.
The company is being dubbed the official Team USA apparel sponsor for the men's and women's gymnastic teams.
"We have worked in the past with Under Armour, and for many years we worked with Adidas, and the kids all knew they were GK leotards with the tag on the inside, but now its going to say GK out on the podium and we are really proud of that," Jones said.
There's no better way to represent the United States of America, than to wear uniforms made in the U.S.
"It is the number one manufactured brand of leotards in the world and it is finally gonna be showcased as that," Jones said.
The company wasn't going to let the pandemic stop them from making it happen, either.
Designs were developed and seen through production, working along with athletes like Simone Biles.
"We take care of the fit, but they give us the inspiration," Jones said.
In the coming days, you'll see those patriotic designs on the Olympic floor.
Two of the designs made their debut Thursday morning during training. One is a non-traditional lavender ice color the team loves to wear, with hints of stars, and another is designed to look like this year's Olympic torch, making it a great way to kick off the games.
Through the games, you'll see both traditional red, white and blue designs made by GK Elite, and you'll also see those non traditional ones worn by both men and women.
