UPPER TULPEHOCKEN TWP., Pa. - An accident on the job claimed the life of a man in Berks County late Friday morning.

It happened around 10:30 a.m. at East Coast Erosion Control in the 400 block of Bricker Road in Upper Tulpehocken Township, just south of Strausstown.

The employee, identified as David Moyer, 50, of Reading, died when a hay bale fell on him, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

"The entire East Coast Erosion family is deeply saddened by this loss," the company said in a statement emailed to 69 News. "We cannot overstate the personal impact this individual has had on our lives since joining East Coast Erosion Control."

The company said it can't yet provide details about the accident, but initial reports from the scene were that the bale of hay weighed 700 pounds.

The company, which was founded in 2002, has production facilities in Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
