A Reading man has avoided time behind bars for his role in a deadly motorcycle crash.
Dominique Troche was sentenced Friday to 18 months of house arrest and five years of probation.
Prosecutors were seeking jail time, but medical professionals and prison staff recommended the sentence handed down by the judge, citing the numerous health issues Troche suffered as a result of the crash.
Police said Troche was riding his bike in August 2016, when he hit a curb and a pole at North Eighth and Green streets in Reading.
His passenger, Ashley Vasquez, 19, was killed; Troche was seriously injured.
He pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide last year.
