READING, Pa. – The Reading Charter Board has formally punished Mayor Wally Scott for violating the city's home rule charter.
Officials said the mayor didn't take action to hire a permanent administrative services director after he had named an acting director in 2016. They said it took Scott more than a year to fill the role, but the charter requires the job to be filled within six months. As a result, the charter board said it will publicly censure Scott and fine him $500.
Former Managing Director Glenn Steckman was also admonished for not taking action.
