Holiday Lights at Gring's Mill

SPRING TWP., Pa. - With record-setting heat on an early-October day in Berks County, it may be hard to think about Christmas. That is, unless you're a county parks and rec employee.

Organizers of the parks department's annual "Holiday Lights at Gring's Mill" announced Wednesday that preparations for the month-long program in Spring Township are already underway.

The festivities will get underway December 5, when Erich Cawalla & Friends, featuring Jenifer Kinder and Cliff Starkey, perform for opening-night visitors.

"Holiday Lights at Gring's Mill," with this year's theme being "Wintry Woodland Christmas," will take place Thursday through Sunday, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., through December 29.

Live music will be performed each night from 6:30 until 8:30 on the upper level of the barn. (See schedule below)

Children can go downstairs to visit with Santa and take a stroll across the bridge to check out the model train display inside the former generation station.

Reindeer from Spruce Run Farm will make a pair of special appearances on December 7 and 14, and artists from Sculpted Ice Works will show off their talents on December 12 and 19.

Free holiday craft workshops for children and their families will be offered on December 8 and 15 from 1 until 4 p.m.

A $5 per-car parking donation is requested at the park's entrance off Tulpehocken Road.
