MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. - A Berks County man being sought in a hit-and-run crash that killed a Reading woman last month is now in custody.
Daniel Espinal was arrested Tuesday night in Harrisburg, according to Sheriff Eric Weaknecht. He was arraigned Wednesday on charges that include failing to render aid and failing to remain at the scene of the accident which resulted in death, while also being unlicensed to drive. A judge set his bail at $75,000.
Espinal, 25, of Birdsboro, was behind the wheel of a car that struck Amy Otero on the Fifth Street Highway at Madison Avenue in Muhlenberg Township on June 18, police said.
Otero, 40, of Reading, died at the scene.
Police said the silver Mercedes that Espinal was driving was found later the same day in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Reading. Numerous tips helped lead to his arrest, Weaknecht said.
