READING, Pa. - It's an intense scene captured on a video that has gone viral. Police say it shows a man resisting arrest and being hit with a stun gun in downtown Reading.
"I don't know the individual, but it was absolutely something I haven't seen in a long time," said Michael Johnston of Reading. "For a guy to be actually tasered and walk away and take off down the street."
Police said officers were called to Ninth and Penn streets for the report of a man with a knife. They said that man, Kerry George, 35, of Reading, resisted questioning and then resisted them when he was going to be placed in handcuffs for officer safety.
"I'm not really reacting surprised," said David Segarra of Reading. "I've been here since 1990 and every day is always something new."
Police said George and his girlfriend, Kimberlee Fields, have been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault and resisting arrest.
"It looks like he assaulted a police officer," Johnston said. "That was pretty bizarre in the middle of Reading."
Police said George was out on bail for a felony drug charge. A knife was recovered.
Michael Johnston, who passes up and down Penn Street on his way to work, said he believes it's still a safe area.
"I see cops riding bikes down the street all the time, talking to me. They come to the hotel. They eat there. I shake their hand," Johnston said.
