ALBANY TWP., Pa. – Shock and disbelief gnaw at Lisa Anne Snyder of Kempton, hours after learning that one of her neighbors – who just happens to share the same first and last name – has been charged with murder in the hanging deaths of her two children.
"Nobody really wanted to believe it," Snyder said. "I was almost physically sick. I was hoping it wasn't true."
Lisa R. Snyder is charged with first- and third-degree murder in the deaths of her two children, 8-year-old Conner and 4-year-old Brinley. They were found hanging in the basement of their home on Route 143 in Albany Township on Sept. 23 and were removed from life support days later.
According to authorities, Conner's mom initially said her son was bullied at school and talked about ending his life, but he was scared to do it alone.
Family members of Conner and Brinley Snyder told 69 News they never believed Conner Snyder would have killed himself and his younger sister. Now, they are anxious for justice to be served.
That's a sentiment shared by Lisa Anne Snyder.
"It really bothered me, because I know that family and I knew those kids," Lisa Anne Snyder said.
Conner was a third-grade student at Greenwich-Lenhartsville Elementary in the Kutztown Area School District. The superintendent said he remembers Conner for his contagious laugh, and bright smile.
"In the case of a young life lost tragically, it can be difficult to find justice," Superintendent Christian Temchatin said in a statement to 69 News.
The charges have hit Lisa Anne especially hard. In a very small community, she said many on Facebook have confused her with the suspect. Lisa R. Snyder and her two kids lived less than a mile from Lisa Anne's Kempton home.
"Hundreds of disgusting messages and calling me all kinds of names and just a disgusting person," Lisa Anne Snyder explained through tears.
Lisa Anne Snyder recently had her leg amputated due to a rare disease. She said the added emotion of this week has been wearing on her, both mentally and physically.
While Lisa Anne Snyder is struggling to deal with this new reality, she has this message to share with those sending her hate.
"Put your energy into praying for those kids," she said. "See how you can help the family."
Officials said Lisa Snyder is facing an additional charge for having sex with her dog. 69 News has reached out to her attorney, but has not yet received a response.
