LEHIGH TWP., Pa. | Authorities allege an Allentown man sexually assaulted several children and raped at least one of them.

Lehigh Township police charged Eric McDonald with more than a dozen sex offenses, including rape and aggravated indecent assault of a child. District Judge Robert Hawke arraigned the 37-year-old Thursday morning, setting bail at $500,000.

The lengthy criminal complaint lists a series of referrals made to caseworkers about allegations of sexual abuse made against McDonald. The victims were all known to McDonald.

The first sexual assault allegation was lodged in January 2018, and authorities said the assaults first occurred in 2017. Investigators said some of the alleged attacks took place in a Lehigh Township home.

The victims reported some of the assaults to adults, who alerted authorities. Court papers indicate investigators questioned other adults about the alleged assaults, but it’s not clear from records whether anyone else is facing charges.

Along with the sexual assaults, McDonald is accused of providing at least one child with marijuana and watching pornography with another.

On Nov. 9, investigators interviewed McDonald at the Carbon County Prison. He declined to speak with a detective on the advice of his counsel. “I thought this thing was resolved,” McDonald allegedly told police.

McDonald had been serving up to 12 months in county prison after pleading guilty last year to a single misdemeanor count of unlawful dissemination of an intimate image.

He now faces single counts of rape of a child and statutory sexual assault; four counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child and corruption of minors; three counts each of aggravated indecent assault of a child and child endangerment; and two counts of indecent assault. All the charges are felonies.

McDonald failed to post bail and was sent to Northampton County Prison to await a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Nov. 29.
