Crash closes Route 22 westbound at Airport Road

 

UPDATE: Route 22 reopens hours after early-morning crash

A serious crash has closed part of Route 22 in Lehigh County Thursday morning.

Two vehicles were involved in the crash around 3:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes at Airport Road, state police said.

A sports car crashed into the back of a box truck, causing the car's passenger to be ejected, state police said in a news release.

The 30-year-old Allentown woman was rushed to the hospital with "major injuries," police said.

Route 22 westbound remains closed at Airport Road while police reconstruct the accident. State police Trooper Nathan Branosky said it "will be closed for an extended period of time."

Drivers should expect heavy delays in the area.
