ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A juvenile stabbed a 48-year-old man to death in self-defense, according to the Lehigh County district attorney's office.

Luis Nieves was attempting a home invasion robbery Sunday evening in Allentown, the DA's office said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., he forced open a door to a home in the 700 block of North 11th Street and assaulted a juvenile, the district attorney said in a news release.

In the course of a struggle, Nieves beat the juvenile with a metal cane and the juvenile stabbed Nieves, the DA's office said.

Nieves was pronounced dead on Sunday shortly after 6 p.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the Lehigh County coroner's office. The coroner determined he died of stab wounds to the body, and ruled his death a homicide.

After reviewing the investigation by Allentown police and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, District Attorney Jim Martin ruled the homicide justified on the basis of self-defense.

The juvenile was taken to the hospital for treatment of his wounds.
