ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Lehigh Valley's first baby of 2020 could barely wait to greet the new decade, making her appearance just 30 seconds after midnight.

And with her grand entrance into the New Year, she brings with her quite a bit of "hope."

Most new parents can tell you sometimes things don't go as planned. Sometimes, it's just destiny. In this case, Destiny Shakespeare.

"I was not expecting this at all," beings new mom Destiny, smiling.

When Destiny checked into Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest on New Year's Eve, she wasn't sure that her little one was ready to make her appearance.

"I mean I was hoping to have her early, but I wasn't expecting a New Year's baby, that's for sure!" she says.

But all that hoping led to a new hope: Hope Louise Shakespeare, born 6 pounds, 3 oz, at 12 midnight, just 30 seconds into the year 2020, to be exact.

"It does not feel real at all, whatsoever," Destiny says, looking down at her newborn. "I'm shocked that she's even here and she's even mine."

It's a fitting name for the first Lehigh Valley newborn of the decade.

"I was just like, this is gonna be my little Hope."

And it's a good reminder that sometimes things are just meant for destiny.

"Just being with her, taking care of her and loving her, and just getting to know her in a motherly way," Destiny says of what comes next.

A perfect way to welcome in 2020 - with a tiny, precious bundle of Hope.
