The Downtown Allentown Market held its grand opening Friday.

The new food hall on the city's ArtsWalk features a mix of high-quality fast-casual food. One of the main attractions Friday was Food Network star Robert Irvine.

The Downtown Allentown Market features nine vendors serving Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, Italian and southern food. They even have doughnut and ice cream shops, a distillery and Robert Irvine's "Fresh Kitchen."

The star of "Restaurant Impossible" and "Dinner Impossible" on the Food Network was at the market to help promote the opening of his new restaurant.

The only other Fresh Kitchen is in the Pentagon.

Chef Irvine says he picked Allentown to be his first public kitchen because of the concept of the market and the growth the city has seen.

"The Pentagon is 10,000 square feet. We're feeding 38,000 people a day there. This is slightly different and we're surrounded by great people," Irvine said.

"The amount of money that's being poured in, I think it's going to be a culinary Mecca at some point. I really do."

The chef and Allentown Interim Mayor Ray O'Connell tried an omelette made for them by 11-year-old Julius DeMicco from Palmerton.

"Definitely a 9," O'Connell said.

"Wow. I'm not as easy as he is," Irvine said.

"I would say that's a 10," Irvine said, after deliberating.
