October is domestic violence awareness month.
Lehigh County officials came together Thursday to discuss how to improve legal representation for those suffering from domestic abuse.
Officials say one in four women and one in seven men have experienced physical violence from their partner. Last year domestic violence claimed the lives of 122 Pennsylvanians.
"We prosecute roughly 850 cases a year of domestic violence. That's 850 too many," said Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin.
Organizers announced a joint initiative Thursday to increase pro bono representation of people who file PFAs, or Protection from Abuse Orders.
