ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Every day, police officers across the country have to make split-second, life-or-death decisions.

Just this past year Allentown police officers had to decide whether to shoot or not on several occasions.

Some people learned on Tuesday night just how hard it is to make that call.

Class was in session Tuesday night at the Allentown Police Academy. Chief Glenn Granitz gave seven Lehigh Valley residents a chance to use APD's "Use of Force" simulator.

"When it does come to making a decision like this, I think it's very important that the residents that we work with everyday see the whole picture," Granitz said.

Granitz said officers go through crisis intervention training and focus on de-escalation in addition to undergoing use of force training.
