SALISBURY TWP., Pa. - Lehigh Valley Health Network is celebrating a milestone with its neo-natal intensive care unit.
This month marks 20 years since the NICU moved from the hospital on 17th Street to the one at Cedar Crest Boulevard.
Before that, the NICU had been at the 17th Street hospital since the 1970s.
LVHN marked the anniversary with an impromptu celebration on Tuesday.
The staff was joined by a family whose first child, Sophia, is currently in the NICU. Sophia's mom says she's grateful for all their help.
"They almost grow to become family. We have a lot of nurses that are regulars with Sophia, but even the ones that haven't taken care of her know Sophia," said Rebekka Snider.
Doctors say Sophia wasn't due until this month, but was born in September.
They say she's come a long way since then, and if all goes well, she could go home next month.
