Man dies after dump truck, motorcycle collide in Bethlehem Township

A man died after a dump truck and a motorcycle collided in Northampton County Monday afternoon.

Kyle Caton, 24, of Port Orange, Florida, was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Bethlehem shortly before 4:30 p.m., the Lehigh County coroner's office said.

He died of multiple blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled an accident, the coroner said.

Caton was riding his motorcycle east on Freemansburg Avenue, approaching Second Street, when a dump truck traveling north on Second Street pulled out and turned left onto Freemansburg, Bethlehem Township police said.

The two vehicles collided, police said.

The road was shut down while police reconstructed the crash. There's no word yet on whether charges will be filed.

Police are asking anybody with information on the crash to call 610-759-2200.

69 News spoke with a woman who has lived near the intersection for 55 years. She says there are too many crashes there and a traffic signal should be installed.

"They've hit the tree over there, they've hit the wall and knocked the pillars down. And there's been a lot of accidents here."

A vigil was held Monday night at the scene of the crash. Friends and family lit candles in honor of Caton. They say he lived in the Lehigh Valley before moving to Florida.
