Fatal tractor-trailer crash New Smithville Road Weisenberg Township

WEISENBERG TWP., Pa. - The driver of a tractor-trailer was killed when his truck went off an Interstate 78 overpass and flipped onto the road below.

State police and rescue teams were called shortly before 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to the area of New Smithville Road near I-78 in Weisenberg Township, Lehigh County, police said.

A tractor-trailer cab had been driving on I-78 when it went off the road, police said. Photos from fire officials at the scene show the truck heavily damaged and completely upside down on top of wires and a grass embankment near the overpass.

The driver, identified by the coroner as Eddy Joel Surinach, 32, of Allentown, died at the scene. The cause of death is multiple blunt force injuries due to the crash. The manner of death is ruled an accident.
