Congresswoman Susan Wild spent Wednesday afternoon In Monroe County speaking with high school students.
The Lehigh Valley Democrat, who just wrapped up her first 100 days in office, shared her experience with students who she called the future of our country.
Wild visited with East Stroudsburg High School students. Sophomores, juniors and seniors packed into Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center to listen to the first-term representative.
Wild says even though some of them aren't even eligible to vote their voices are still being heard.
"The more they can interact with their elected officials overall the more it's going to keep them engaged," Wild said.
Senior Ava Bauer, one of the 90 students there to ask Wild a question, said hearing from the congresswoman means a lot to her and her future.
"People don't realize how once in a lifetime this opportunity is," Bauer said. "Even like the littlest stories that she has to tell I think it can inspire kids."
Sophomore Aiden Dennis was admittedly inspired by Wild especially after the congresswoman said she first thought about running for office in high school.
Aiden says it's crossed his mind as well.
"I've talked about it a few times. I'd like to serve our country first and then maybe think about the political issues," he said.
Wild says students like Aiden can focus on their future because she and other elected officials will do what they can to set them up for success down the road.
"We see in them our children and the next generation and we know just how important it is and when they speak up we listen," Wild said.
