Sears stays open with 11th-hour deal

WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - The Sears in Whitehall Township is set to close.

A going-out-of-business sale at the Whitehall Mall store off of MacArthur Road is expected to begin on Dec. 2.

It is among the 51 Sears stores slated to close as part of streamlining efforts, according to TransformCo, which bought virtually all Sears Holdings Corporation assets in February 2019.

All eligible associates will be offered the same number of weeks of severance as offered to employees of Sears Holdings Corporation prior to October 2018.

Forty-five Kmart stores are also getting the ax.
