A sinkhole has closed a stretch of Chew Street in Allentown.
The hole opened Monday afternoon as a contractor for the Lehigh County Water Authority was working to replace a valve near the intersection with North Seventh Street, according to Susan Simpson, a spokeswoman for the authority.
The crew had to shut off water to the authority's customers in the 200 and 300 block of North Seventh Street while it worked to make repairs.
Chew Street between North Seventh and North Church streets will remain closed overnight. Workers will then return Tuesday to complete their repairs, Simpson said.
No injuries were reported.
