LOWER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. – Lower Macungie Township reached a pre-construction agreement during Thursday night's board of commissioners meeting that will advance the construction of a new fast food restaurant.
Representatives of a Taco Bell, to be located at 5374 and 5392 Hamilton Blvd. in the area of Hamilton Crossings strip mall, asked the township to proceed with construction of the restaurant earlier than anticipated. This due, in part, to take advantage of the weather conditions, said Nathan Jones, the township's director of planning.
"This is a standard agreement,” said F. Peter Lehr, township solicitor.
The agreement allows Macungie Investors LLC to begin developing the 2,753-square-foot fast food restaurant on a 2.5 acre lot that will include a drive-thru. In addition, the developer will build a 9,600 square-foot, two-story commercial retail building. The proposed building comes complete with parking, stormwater facilities and landscaping.
Commissioners granted preliminary final approval for Taco Bell's land development plan on Aug. 17, 2018.
In other news, the board approved a resolution to send an application to PennDOT for a new traffic signal at the intersection of Sauerkraut Lane and Route 100.
The votes were the only two the board took during the meeting.
President Ronald W. Beitler and Commissioner Brian Higgins were absent from Thursday night's meeting.
