U. SAUCON TWP., Pa. - The U.S. Senior Open is teeing off Thursday morning, though the weather is less than ideal.

The world's top senior golfers are meeting in the Lehigh Valley at Saucon Valley Country Club.

Some of the 156 players were warming up early Thursday morning, as the 69 News at Sunrise team anchored live from the course.

Steady rain and even some downpours are in the forecast for the first part of Thursday, and rain started picking up as the first round got underway at 7 a.m.

Hank Thompson, senior director of the U.S. Senior Open, said he's thankful they were able to get through the night okay with no heavy rain, and is crossing his fingers for the day ahead.

Other organizers told 69 News reporter Ali Reid about the years-long process it took to get to this point.

Tickets are still available for the event, and gates open at 7 a.m. every day. General parking is at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus and a shuttle takes fans to the course.

Organizers are reminding people to be respectful and courteous, and stay outside of the ropes on the course.
