WFMZ, Lehigh Valley Phantoms to host coat drive for Salvation Army
ALLENTOWN, Pa. -- Join us for the 69 WFMZ-TV and Lehigh Valley Phantoms Coat Drive. It's on Friday, November 29th at the PPL Center in Allentown. Donate new or gently used coats to help keep people in our community warm.
All coats will go to various Salvation Army programs, including the Foster Care and Adoption program. "This year, we are in greater need that ever before with the financial strains families are experiencing and the increasing numbers of families in crisis," said Flo Rhue, Director of Children’s Services for Salvation Army. She added, "The Annual Coat Drive helps keep families going when the going gets tough and can help restore hope in people and inspire the community to come together and serve those who need it most."
This is the 10th annual Coat Drive for WFMZ-TV and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Last year we collected 1,250 coats, and we hope to beat that number this year!
To donate, come to the PPL Center in Allentown on Friday, November 29th from 5 to 7pm. That's right before the Lehigh Valley Phantoms game against the Hershey Bears. We'll be set up on the plaza at 7th and Hamilton Streets with some familiar faces from 69 News on hand to help collect the coats. If you're not coming to the game, there will be a drive-thru drop off lane on Hamilton Street in front of Tim Horton's. We'll have volunteers to help unload your car.
If you can't make it to the PPL Center that night, we have drop-off bins at the Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem. You can drop coats off anytime during their business hours, and the bins will be there until Friday, November 29th.
To celebrate the 10th year of the Coat Drive, we're expanding to also hold a coat drive in Reading, in conjunction with the Reading Royals. That will be on Saturday, December 14th. More information will be released soon. (One released, update last sentence to: Click here for more information)
