Route 61 crash near Pottsville

NORTH MANHEIM TWP., Pa. - State police say a man may have been driving under the influence when he caused a crash in Schuylkill County Monday afternoon.

Six people, including three children, were hurt in the three-vehicle crash on Route 61 in the area of Tumbling Run Road near Pottsville, authorities said.

Bernard Schuck, 31, was driving an SUV southbound when he crossed over the median and was hit by two oncoming vehicles, state police said in a news release.

Schuck, who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, is suspected to be DUI, police said, and authorities say they expect to file charges pending blood results.

He had a front seat passenger and three young children in the back seat, police said. Details on their injuries, or the drivers of the other vehicles, were not available, but the Pottsville fire chief said multiple people were flown from the scene for treatment.

Route 61 was closed while police reconstructed the accident and cleared the scene.
