Carbon County water search Weissport area

FRANKLIN TWP., Pa. - The man who jumped in the Lehigh River and drowned while fleeing police has been identified.

The body of Jeffrey Hosier, 32, was pulled from the water in Carbon County on Wednesday, according to county coroner Robert Miller.

His drowning death was ruled an accident, Miller said.

Hosier, of Weissport, jumped in the water while running from police Tuesday night, officials said.

An officer and bystanders tried to get him out, but he kept swimming further, saying he didn't want to go back to jail, and then went under the water and didn't resurface, police said.

Authorities did not detail why he was running from police, but online court records show a lengthy criminal history.
