SWIFTWATER, Pa. - The Pocono Mountain School District Board of Education reached a contract agreement with the Pocono Mountain Education Support Professionals Association union Tuesday.
All support staff employees will get 3% pay raises under the five-year contract, with career and grandfathered employees receiving an additional .5% annually, according to the district's school board.
Employees will pay 30 percent of their medical benefits.
The board said it is contracting out Student Transportation Services, which could mean bus drivers and vehicle mechanics could lose their jobs. Any driver or mechanic who loses their job will get $5,000 in compensation if they remain with the district until the end of the school year. They would also get three months of continued medial insurance from July 1 until September 30.
The new contract is effective retroactively as of July 1, 2019 and will be in effect until June 30, 2024.
The support staff union consists of custodians, maintenance, grounds, technology, paraprofessionals, administrative assistants, non-administrative assistants, as well as drivers and mechanics. The union has 385 total support staff, 107 bus drivers and four mechanics.
