TOBYHANNA, Pa. - Police in Monroe County are investigating after two men allegedly broke into a home and assaulted a woman.
The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department was sent to a residence in Tobyhanna shortly before 7 p.m. for reports of a home invasion that involved armed assailants.
Arriving officers found a woman who had sustained a head injury. She was treated on scene and taken to Lehigh Valley Pocono where her condition was stable, the police department said in a news release.
While initial reports had indicated a gunshot wound was involved, medical reports revealed the wound was not caused by a gunshot, police said.
After an initial investigation, police believe two men forced entry into the home and assaulted the woman.
Police said the assault appears to be retaliation from an earlier assault which occurred at a school bus stop in the area.
A 12-year-old was assaulted by an adult during the earlier assault, police said.
