Collegeville homicide investigation

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Police in Montgomery County are investigating a shooting where an alleged home invader was killed.

Police responded to a house on East Third Avenue in Collegeville for reports of a shooting at around 11:30 p.m on Saturday, according to a release from the Montgomery County district attorney's office.

Responding officers found a 55-year-old man with a gunshot wound inside the home, the DA said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, but his name has not yet been released.

Authorities say the man reportedly forced his way into the home and was shot by someone inside.

Police were still on the scene interviewing homeowners Sunday night.

WFMZ's Holly Harrar spoke to neighbors who said they keep to themselves but that the incident is alarming, especially since the road is poorly lit at night time.

An officer on scene Sunday night said the shooting is being handled by the Montgomery County district attorney's office.

Police are asking anyone with additional information to contact the Collegeville Borough Police Department at 610-489-0192. You can also call the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.
