PHILLIPSBURG, N.J. | Authorities allege that a New Jersey man robbed a juvenile at gunpoint Thursday afternoon in Phillipsburg.
The Warren County Prosecutor's Office on Friday announced charges against William A. Wilson in connection with the armed robbery about 2:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities charged Wilson with robbery, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and a disorderly persons offense.
Phillipsburg police were dispatched to the 100 block of South Main Street to investigate a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at a local business, according to a news release. Police said the juvenile victim had been threatened with a handgun, and that the robber made off with cash. The news release does not indicate the age of the victim or how much money was allegedly stolen.
An investigation involving Phillipsburg police and the county prosecutor's office identified Wilson as the alleged robber. Authorities said a handgun was recovered, the description of which was consistent with the one provided by the victim. It was not immediately clear where investigators recovered the weapon.
Authorities said a search of Wilson's home turned up "other items relevant to the investigation," according to the news release. Wilson, whose age was not immediately available, was sent to the Warren County Correctional Facility awaiting the outcome of a detention motion filed by the prosecutor's office.
